Louise Marshall founded The Cabbage Patch Settlement House in 1910, with the help from her community, church and family. Colorfully named after Miss Marshall's neighborhood, this remarkable organization was formed in the powerful spirit of Christian love.
The Cabbage Patch grew and quickly gained support from the community. The children and youth of The Cabbage Patch neighborhood had a safe haven to play, grow and learn. By 1929, the needs of the community proved to be far greater than the capacity of our original facility. That year, The Cabbage Patch Settlement House moved to its current location on South Sixth Street in Louisville, Kentucky.
For Miss Marshall, The Cabbage Patch Settlement House was a lifelong labor of love and dedication. Though she died in 1981, her legacy of helping others lives on. Louise Marshall's life and work stand as a testimony to the fact that one person can make a profound difference. Because she was willing to take the first step and act on her vision, God grew that vision, and today the ministry of The Cabbage Patch Settlement House continues to profoundly touch thousands of lives for the better.
