Giving the Kids Room to Grow

The Room To Grow Project is our largest facility expansion since The Cabbage Patch was established in 1910.

For almost 100 years we have successfully enlightened and empowered at-risk children and their families. However, with more and more children needing our help, we outgrew our current space and needed more room for these and many more children to grow and thrive. But in order for us to grow, we need your help and support to finance the facilities equipped to lead us into our second century of service.

In addition to the continued need for funds to support our ongoing programs, The Cabbage Patch was in great need of new construction and renovations of existing spaces to better serve our children and families.

While the staff and board have been good stewards of The Cabbage Patch facilities, there were some areas that served their usefulness many times over. As we were located in old houses, most of our spaces were not designed for their present use. To serve the critical needs of the community, The Cabbage Patch simply needed more and better-configured space, particularly for the youth development, recreation and education programs.

With your support, The Cabbage Patch can grow to better serve the expanding needs of our community. Your generous gift to The Cabbage Patch Room To Grow Project will fund the new construction, renovations, equipment, furnishings and upgrades that are effectively addressing space and programming limitations. These projects are already having an immediate and resounding impact on not only the many children and families served by The Cabbage Patch, but the community as a whole.

After surpassing nearly $4 million toward our original goal of $4.3 million--but facing increased and increasing construction costs, we stepped out in faith and began construction in August 2008.    Construction costs had increased significantly at the time, and it became necessary to raised the campaign goal to $6 million to cover the costs of the $7 million project (some money remained from a previous fundraising effort).  Now, at just over $4.8 million raised, we are working diligently to raise the remaining $1.2 million in order to avoid long-term debt service.  Every dollar going toward that means a dollar that cannot be spent on programs and services for children and families.  We need your help!
