After 14 months of our programs operating at Walnut Street Baptist Church (a special thanks to Pastor Rusty Ellison and staff for providing a "home away from home"), the children and youth have come home to The Cabbage Patch! A crowd of volunteers, alumni, and other supporters filled Holladay Hall and celebrated with us Tuesday, December 15 as we officially cut the ribbon and dedicated the new program spaces constructed as part of the much-anticipated "Room to Grow" project.
Alumna, architect, board member, donor and Buildings & Grounds chairperson Kim Glass was recognized for her extraordinary commitment to the project. Glass is shown (right photo) on the new floor of the gymnasium named for longtime Patch employee and volunteer, the late Roosevelt Chin.
Following a prayer of dedication by Rev. Steve Jester (left in photo below, with Rev. Tracy Holladay, executive director of The Cabbage Patch) of Second Presbyterian Church, alumni Don Keeling, Bob and Marita Willis, and Frances Lewis, along with Patch members Jacobi, Veronica, and Jaqueisha cut the ribbon. (Second Presbyterian was the church of Patch founder Miss Louise Marshall.) An open house with guided tours of the new facilities and featured children's programs followed.
